MYSTERIES OF MADAGASCAR

Experience the untamed beauty of the northeastern part of Madagascar as you partake in this one-of-a-kind adventure that includes not only the vanilla plantations but also the emerald rainforests. Your trip starts in Antananarivo and is followed by a direct flight to Sambava, a picturesque destination recognized for its sweet-scented vanilla plantations. There, before continuing your excursion to the spectacular Marojejy National Park, be sure to visit the local vanilla factory. On the way, you can marvel at the varied nature looking for the less visited places, meeting the challenges of the significant volcanic rocks, wandering through the marine forest, and potentially witnessing animals such as the critically endangered Silky Sifaka. Enjoy the company of the welcoming forest streams and sleep under the stars in cozy forest villages, visiting beautiful waterfalls, and experiencing the peace and quiet of the unspoiled jungle.

At the end of this tour, we need to return to Sambava where you will fly back to the capital and have dinner in a prominently nice atmosphere to rest and finally say farewell to locals

Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo

Upon arrival in Antananarivo, you’ll be transferred to a hotel conveniently located near the airport. Depending on your arrival time, you may have a chance to explore the city. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Antananarivo to Sambava

Begin the day with a morning flight to Sambava, the only flight scheduled for this overland journey (flight schedules may vary). Sambava is known for its sprawling vanilla fields and coconut plantations. After arrival, visit a workshop for a fascinating demonstration of the vanilla production process, from the fields to the final vanilla pod. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3: Sambava to Marojejy National Park

Today includes a scenic trek of 3.5 to 4 hours. Starting at 07:30 am, an experienced guide will lead you on a 2-hour 4WD drive to Manantenina, continuing along a dirt track to Mandena, the last accessible point by car. From here, a 1-hour trek will bring you to the entrance of Marojejy National Park, with an easy 3 km walk and an 80-meter elevation gain. Continue with a 2.5-hour hike to reach Camp Mantella, where you’ll have time to explore the forest. A one-hour walk to the Humbert waterfall is an optional adventure. Overnight stay in camping facilities or basic huts (meals included: BLD).

Day 4: Marojejy National Park

Today’s trek takes you to Camp Marojejia (Camp 2) via an uphill hike of around 2 hours, with a 350-meter elevation gain. You’ll have plenty of time to rest and enjoy the forest views, as well as the chance to observe local wildlife. Marojejia camp, situated between lowland and Montane rainforest, offers breathtaking panoramas of the park. With luck, you may spot the critically endangered Silky Sifaka, an exquisite white lemur unique to this region. Overnight stay in camping facilities or basic huts (BLD).

Day 5: Marojejy National Park

Today’s itinerary includes exploring the trails around Marojejia camp, focused on observing the unique flora and fauna of the park. This 4-hour walk may vary depending on wildlife sightings. Alternatively, you may choose to stay back and enjoy the serene views of Marojejia camp. Overnight stay in camping facilities or basic huts, with meals provided (BLD).

Day 6: Marojejy National Park to Sambava

Depart the camp around 07:00 am for a descent back to Camp Mantella, then onward to Mandena, where vehicles await for the return drive to Sambava. This descent takes approximately 4 hours, followed by a 1-hour drive to Sambava. Known for its unique position at the “green triangle” of the SAVA roads, Sambava lies at the confluence of three rivers, connecting to Antalaha in the south, Vohemar in the north, and Andapa in the west. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Sambava.

Day 7: Sambava to Antananarivo – Departure

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Antananarivo. Upon arrival, you’ll have a chance to explore the capital city. Enjoy a farewell dinner before being transferred to the airport for your international departure. This concludes your unforgettable journey through Madagascar. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!
